"A Full Day" Pedrero Wall Sculpture in Juried NYC Exhibition

I am elated to have my wall sculpture selected for the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition Juried Exhibition Recycle 2023.

Quite often I create artwork for a specific show, however, I had already created two pieces with my own motivation to challenge myself in creating sculptural work. I am primarily a painter and often find that the base or armature of a sculpture is my first challenge. I found a few objects to test and successfully moved forward.

I like all of the textures that cardboard gives us when tearing and cutting it up. I also like recycling it from shipments, or should I say upcycling.

I began by tearing and cutting, screwing some pieces to my base, and layering and gluing layers upon layers. Then my first paint layer was red.

I played with layering the paint, then some more cardboard and exploring the way the colors were activated by the edges and layering.

I so enjoyed that this sculpture is on a round base and can be turned in any direction.

Here in progress as I build the layers

The final piece has a landscape feel to it. I am thrilled that juror John C. Kaiser selected this piece. If you are in NYC at attend please let me know, even tag me in a pic at the show, I’d be thrilled to see it. Here’s the final artwork and info.
