Stations of the Cross Exhibition Arlington VA

I was invited by Maureen Doallas to create art for a special exhibition depicting the Stations off the Cross. I selected station 11, Jesus is nailed to the cross. While on a walk I once found a giant nail, probably for a railroad, or old building, yet for me it was symbolic. I thought of the nail as my sin, and that no matter how colorful, or seemingly justifiable, a sin was a sin. I kept that nail. I also carved a nail in linoleum block to print, I keep it in my studio and I used it for the nails in this painting. To think of the pain and suffering of Christ being nailed to the cross is heart wrenching. As He gave his life in atonement for our sins, I cannot truly comprehend it, although I grateful accept His mercy.
